After having posted an entry regarding Google's habit of developing services and not really advertising them, we realized that many don't realize what else Google has developed and not told us about.

With exclusion of the obvious and well know gMail and Google Docs Suite, here is a list of the best Google online applications that you never knew existed.

And while some of the applications may not seem immediately useful, it is important to remember that many of these still under heavy construction.

The applications appeal to a variety of end users, from programmer to recreational users alike.

 

Google Base
You have a new recipe for Tiramisu, but you don't have website, and you want to share it online? There a few ways to go about this: 1) you could post it on a blog; 2) you could get your own website; 3) or you could post it on Google Base.

Google Base is a central location where you can submit online and offline content that will then be available and searchable in Google. There are numerous categories under which to post your entry, from jobs to products, and according to the tags you associate to the item it may even show up in Google Product Search.



Google Trends
Find how well your favourite topics fare amongst Googlers and compare your favourite topic to other topics, and see which Google users prefer the most. Google analyzes a chunk of Google queries to determine how many queries have been made for the keywords you enter, with relevance to the total amount of queries made to Google over time. Trends is quite useful for identifying and developing marketing trends for particular regions.



Google Booksearch
Google Booksearch allows you to search for the book most suited to your preferences and needs, in relation to the terms you enter, and offers books similar to your favourite texts. Google Booksearch allows you to view a snippet of the text you are searching for, or if the book is out of copyright or if it is in public domain then the entire text will be made available. Google Booksearch is an invaluable source for students and professionals alike.

Google Notebook
Google Notebook allows the user to take notes and collect information from many sites and store them in a single location to be processed at a later time. So, Notebooks is essentially an online notepad where you can collect all the information you have accrued for your latest presentation while surfing the web. With notebook you can take notes, capture images and save links all without leaving the page you are on.



Google SketchUp
Google SketchUp is a powerful but simple application for developing intricate 3d models and graphics. SketchUp is used by professionals, but it has also found some popularity with recreational users as it allows to design buildings and other wonders, and load them directly into Google Earth using real-world coordinates.

 

Google Presentation 
We said we weren't going to consider Google Docs as the service is quite well known, however, it may not be know that Google has extended the Docs suite to include a new Presentation tool. The tool is similar to Microsoft's Powerpoint software, and it is safe to say that the webtool performs all major and common tasks that Powerpoint provides. There is a feature that Google Presentation has over Microsoft Powerpoint, and that is that Google Presentation allows to publish your presentation as a complete web page online.

These are some of the better applications to come right out of Google Labs, and although some are still heavily in beta stage they all share the quality and efficiency Google has become famous for.

	I like the whole philosophy behind google and not really advertising their services much.    It makes me wonder how many other applications are out there that we don't know about.    I'll have to keep looking... and i'll add my findings!  Fun... this is kinda like a treasure hunt. Guest Report
